The possibilities for interpreting the 2026 Met Gala’s “Fashion Is Art” dress code were endless, but for some guests, classicism was in order on the red carpet. Among the eight subsections of the Costume Art exhibition, the Classical Body division, focusing on Hellenistic and Roman art, has proven to be a popular starting point for celebrities and designers.
Unsurprisingly, the guests favored drapes that seemed carved from marble: Laura Harrier adopted the wet look in a draped dress Di Pesataand the beaded trompe-l’eye Thom Browne by Lindsey Vonna, imitated swirling black and white marble. However, the participants proved that it was still possible to be creative with classical art. Like Kendall Jenner and Zac Posen who pushed the boundaries of the humble white T-shirt, transforming the GapStudio basic into an eloquent version of the Winged Victory of Samothracewhile Chase Infiniti – in Thom Browne – a donné à la Venus de Milo a colorful update.
And, of course, Heidi Klum pushed the exercise to its climax by embodying the Vestal veil of Raffaele Montiwith a lot of prostheses. In Rome, as the saying goes… Here’s a look at the 2026 Met Gala guests who were inspired by the classic body.
