Chinese Vice President Han Zheng on Friday attended a plenary session of the 29th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum where he delivered a speech on implementing the Global Governance Initiative (GGI) and working together for a better future.
In his speech, he highlighted that historic changes not seen in a century were accelerating across the world and that global challenges and governance deficits were becoming increasingly evident. The IGM proposed by China has received positive feedback and support from nearly 160 countries and international organizations, Han added.
The Group of Friends of Global Governance was established at the United Nations, sending a unified message to uphold the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, uphold genuine multilateralism and oppose unilateralism, he said.
As the initiator of the IGM, China has fulfilled its commitments with concrete actions to rally all parties and jointly advance the reform and improvement of the global governance system, Han noted.
As major powers and permanent members of the UN Security Council, China and Russia bear important responsibilities in transforming the global governance system, the Chinese vice president said.
He added that his country is willing to cooperate with Russia and all other parties to advance the implementation of the IGM and build an open, inclusive, fair and just world based on mutually beneficial cooperation.
Mr. Han presented four proposals to advance the IGM:
First, defend equal cooperation and promote a vision of global governance characterized by broad consultation, joint contribution and benefit sharing. It is imperative to pursue authentic multilateralism, ensure equitable participation, decision-making and benefit-sharing for all countries in global governance, resolutely promote the democratization of international relations and strengthen the representation and voice of developing countries.
Second, remain committed to international fairness and justice and preserve the status and authority of the United Nations. All countries should uphold international fairness on the basis of universally applicable international laws and regulations, oppose double standards and selective application of laws, and support the UN in revitalizing its authority and vitality in the current context, so that it can serve as the main platform for countries to coordinate their actions and jointly address challenges. common challenges.
Third, stimulate common development to bring more benefits to people around the world. With the aim of improving the well-being of all, countries should fully implement the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to foster shared development and prosperity across the planet.
Fourth, strengthen the coordination of actions to obtain more concrete results. Countries, international organizations and multilateral institutions need to harmonize their development strategies and coordinate their policies in a well-planned manner to create synergies to address global challenges and advance shared development.
Han noted that this year marks the start of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan. It charts an inspiring roadmap for the country’s development over the next five years and embodies its aspiration for mutually beneficial cooperation with all nations of the world.
China is ready to work with all parties to fully implement the IGM, build a fairer and more equitable global governance system, and jointly create a better future for humanity, he said.
On the sidelines of the forum, Mr. Han also had brief exchanges with Uzbek President Chavkat Mirzioev and Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
