The constancy and coherence he demonstrates in the implementation of his foreign policy, as well as his ability to realize his vision of regional and international issues, are increasingly appreciated by the international community, which sees it as an interesting reference to meet current challenges.

This is the analysis of Professor Vu Minh Khuong, from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore, and Dr.r. Mohamed Effendy B. Abdul Hamid, senior lecturer at the National University of Singapore, in interviews with the VNA correspondent in Singapore on the occasion of the state visit of the Secretary General of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of the Republic, Tô Lâm, in the city-state and his keynote speech on 23e Shangri-La Dialogue.

According to Professor Vu Minh Khuong, the particularly favorable reception reserved for Tô Lâm’s intervention is not accidental. “In the war, Vietnam demonstrated resilience; in the Renewal, it demonstrated its audacity; in this new era of development, it shows itself to be responsible and bearer of an ambitious vision,” at-il underlined.

The researcher believes that two major elements explain the interest aroused by Vietnam and its leader among the international community.

Vietnam, an ambitious vision

First, Vietnam remains firmly committed to a policy based on peace, cooperation and shared prosperity, while promoting a common vision for the future. The country has notably demonstrated its capacity to transform antagonisms into friendly relations and differences into mutual understanding, thanks to proactive diplomacy.

In this regard, the professor cited the meeting between Tô Lâm and American President Donald Trump at the White House last February, as well as the state visit to China in April, shortly after his election as president of the Republic. These initiatives illustrate, according to him, Vietnam’s proactivity and flexibility in the implementation of its foreign policy.

In an increasingly complex geopolitical context, maintaining harmonious relations with the great powers constitutes one of the most delicate challenges. However, Vietnam is today seen as a particularly interesting example of a balanced approach in international relations, he added.

Second, Vietnam constantly strives to reconcile its national interests with the common interests of the region and the international community. For Professor Vu Minh Khuong, the country exerts a positive influence by promoting rapprochement between nations, thus becoming an increasingly important player in the global ecosystem.

Sharing this analysis, Dr. Mohamed Effendy B. Abdul Hamid stressed that the international community appreciated Vietnam’s coherence and constancy in the conduct of its foreign policy, as reflected in the messages conveyed by Tô Lâm.

According to him, the Vietnamese leader further clarified Vietnam’s vision on regional and international issues during this year’s Shangri-La Dialogue.

From the perspective of a Southeast Asia specialist, Dr.r. Abdul Hamid believes that the current period is of particular importance, when the international community has high expectations of Vietnam in a context marked by complex geopolitical developments.

He also noted that many observers now consider the Vietnamese approach as a reference worthy of interest for understanding and managing the new challenges facing the world today.
