Mites are very diverse, with 55 to 60,000 known species but potentially more than 1 million species exist. They are everywhere, in water, soil, on plants, on animals and even in human homes. Their ecological functions are also very numerous, some being crop pests, others predators of these same pests while others are decomposers of organic matter, animal parasites.

These functions lead to very diverse fields of application from agricultural Acarology to medical Acarology. Thus, research in Acarology has a significant role to play in responding to the challenges surrounding ecological crises, the effects of climate change and overall transformations in the perception of this tiny biodiversity, not only to understand current challenges, but also to plan and drive future scientific and societal progress.

The theme of the 2026 congress is “Navigating the Future of Acarology: Honoring Tradition, Advancing Knowledge†. This event brings together the world’s leading experts in Acarology, with the objective of promoting the exchange of experiences, methods and innovative results but also to train in this tiny and little-known world.
