The 14e Edition of the Strasbourg international go game tournament will take place this weekend of May 30 and 31 at the FEC, 17, place Saint-Étienne in Strasbourg.
This event which brings together players of all levels is considered for its “top group†as one of the most prestigious two-day competitions in Europe. More than 30 players of 16 different nationalities and classified “en dan”, the strongest of the categories, announced their presence.
Streaming matches on Twitch
The tournament title is decided by direct elimination between the 16 best players in the international ranking (round of 16 and quarter-finals on Saturday from 2 p.m., semi-finals on Sunday at 10 a.m. and final at 2 p.m.). Part of each round will be broadcast live on the internet (OGS server). The highlights of the final will be analyzed on the European Go Federation’s Twitch channel.
The first 12 editions were all won by a Chinese or Korean player. Last year we witnessed the first European success (by the Polish player Stanislaw Frejlak). We now await the first French victory! The three best French players, Benjamin Dréan-Guénaïzia, Tanguy Le Calvé and Strasbourg player Thomas Debarre, will be present.
Due to the configuration of the premises, access to the top group room will be limited.
Initiations and promotion of the Maths et go project
In parallel with the main tournament, activities will be organized on both days in the FEC cafeteria (Eurostudent Café). “15-minute initiations” will be offered on Saturday at 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., modeled on those offered every Monday at 8 p.m., also at the FEC.
It will also be possible for teachers to meet the leaders of the Maths et go project, an innovative initiative developed in Strasbourg which consists of showing how, from kindergarten onwards, playing the game of go during school time can contribute to the development of mathematical skills.
The Strasbourg international tournament is also an opportunity to highlight the best local players: Nyoshi Cao, who participated in two world championships this year (pair go with his partner Antoine Fenech as part of the Universal Exhibition in Osaka and women’s in Tokyo), Thomas Debarre, Benjamin Chetioui (vice-champion of France), Motoki Noguchi (best Japanese player residing in Europe). We will discover in competition the newcomer to Strasbourg and his go club: the Taiwanese Chen-Hwa Chen (5 dan).
