Indeed, much of the discontent is caused by the war in Iran. 61% of Americans would prefer the war to have a limited duration according to a poll carried out by Fox News. In a New York Times and Siena College poll, more than half of the population who registered to vote would like military operations to stop even if the United States cannot reach an agreement with Iran. According to CNN, polls carried out on Americans’ opinions regarding the war in Iran show that they no longer fully trust the tenant of the White House. Moreover, the latest poll carried out by CNN shows that only 20% of the population has “a lot” of confidence in the president’s abilities to make good decisions on this subject.

In view of the polls, it would therefore seem that Donald Trump has not succeeded in tilting the opinions of the Americans on his management of the conflict in his favor. For CNN, the president should withdraw from the war now, even if it may already be too late…

A new decision by Donald Trump is not unanimous: “He has just made legal immigration more difficult”

Approval rate below 40%

Unfortunately for the president, American opinion is also faltering when it comes to the economy. 55% of the population believes that their financial situation has deteriorated according to a Gallup survey. This is the first time that this result has exceeded the 50% mark in this organization’s survey.

What is most alarming for Donald Trump’s camp is that the White House tenant’s approval rating has fallen below the 40% mark. This is the first time he has fallen this low since his return to power. Many independent voters, considered undecided – who can switch from one end of the political spectrum to another depending on the elections – also have a different voting intention than in 2024. Only a third of the latter would plan to vote for a Republican representative in the next November elections according to the poll carried out by the New York Times with Siena College.

“This is the most worrying sign I’ve seen for Trump and the Republican Party”: what a recent poll reveals

The situation is therefore proving complicated for the Republican camp and some are starting to worry. It is not certain that conservatives will be able to keep their majority in Congress, which prompted Karl Rove, former strategist for George W. Bush, to write: “The more disorderly the messages from the White House on war and the economy, the more in danger Republican candidates will be. The more Mr. Trump interferes in the campaign, the more damage he will do to Republicans and to his own cause.”

In certain states, the situation is more worrying, in Texas in particular. Indeed, the president had highlighted Ken Paxton in the Republican primary. The latter then won the votes of the conservatives. And for some in the Trump camp, it’s a problem that could lead to losing the election in this state, as a strategist explains in Newsweek: “I think the Democrats’ chances of winning Texas are better today than they have been in 25 years.”. For him, following the victory of Paxton, the candidate favored by Trump, all the conditions are met for the party opposite: “We need a political context favorable to the Democrats. We need an exceptional Democratic candidate, capable of attracting voters of other tendencies, and this is the case. And third, it takes a seriously discredited Republican candidate, and this is the case.”
