What could Israel’s foreign policy look like if the current opposition were to succeed in the next general elections scheduled for the fall? Former Prime Minister Yair Lapid (center), associated with Naftali Bennett (liberal right), within a joint list called Ensemble, presented, Monday May 25, to international journalists, the first axes of Israeli diplomacy on which the two opponents of the current head of government, Benjamin Netanyahu, are committed.
Mr. Lapid, who agreed to leave first place on the list to his ally, Mr. Bennett, defends a change of method by arguing a catastrophic diplomatic situation, marked by the deterioration of links with Europe and some of the Americans.
He promotes a change in form by emphasizing, for example, the considerable damage caused by the Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, at the time of the boarding of members of the Gaza flotilla, subjected to serious violence and exhibited before the cameras in a humiliating manner.
“One national shame”castigates the former head of government among the favorites to become Minister of Foreign Affairs in the event of victory for the Bennett list, a position he has already occupied between 2021 and 2022.
