The Russian president Vladimir Poutine to declare on Tuesday 26th that the global political situation is « particularly difficult ”, during the 58th meeting of the Council of Heads of Security Agencies and Special Services of the Commonwealth of Independent States (the). Poutine pointed to instability near Russia’s borders and the crisis in the Middle East as the main challenges facing the region.
Threats identified by the Kremlin
« A serious crisis has engulfed the Middle East. New pockets of instability have appeared, particularly near our borders », to souligné the chefs of the Russian État. Poutine stressed the need to strengthen coordination between security agencies of CIS member countries to address threats related to terrorism, extremism, cross-border organized crime and cybercrime.
These concerns reflect a geopolitical situation marked by several active sources of tension. In Asia – Pacific, the Chine intensifies its military exercises around Taà ̄wan while clashes with the Philippines worsen in the South China Sea, while in Eastern Europe, the Ukrainian conflict persists with nuclear risks. At Middle East, tensions between Israël et Iran dominate, fueled by Israeli-Lebanese clashes. This accumulation of regional crises complicates the global situation and fuels tensions between the main powers.
Strengthen common analytical capabilities
Poutine called on the CIS security agencies to “ utilize the analytical, personnel, operational and technical capabilities of your agencies in the most effective manner to ensure reliable protection of the Commonwealth against potential internal and external threats.”. He also called for regular sharing of information and the development of unified approaches to common challenges.
« I am convinced that the outcome of the meeting will contribute to ensuring the safe and stable development of our countries and people “, concluded the Russian president. The discussions at this meeting should lead to concrete recommendations for security cooperation between the CIS member states over the coming months.
