On Monday, the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, declared that the 27 foreign ministers of the European Union (EU) had approved sanctions against violent settlers.

Diplomats also approved new sanctions against leaders of the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas.

“It was high time to break the deadlock and take action,” declared Kallas, who in recent days explained that this deadlock had been overcome thanks to the defeat of Hungarian Viktor Orbán.

“Extremism and violence have consequences. HAS”

However, there is still technical and legal work to be done within the EU before sanctions are officially imposed. These will include freezing assets and banning entry into the country.

Israel “strongly rejects” this decision, Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said on the social network

“Equally scandalous is the unacceptable comparison that the European Union has chosen to make between Israeli citizens and Hamas terrorists,” he continued.

“This is a completely biased moral equivalence. HAS”

An EU official told the Times of Israel that the sanctions against Hamas, adopted on the same day, were not intended to establish any comparison, but constituted a condition set by certain member states for them to support sanctions against residents of radical settlements.

“Israel “defended, defends and will continue to defend the right of Jews to settle in the heart of our homeland,” Saar continued.

“No other people in the world have such an ancient and documented right to their land as the Jewish people to the Land of Israel. This is a moral and historical right, recognized by international law, and which no actor can take away from the Jewish people. HAS”

The sanctions do not target settlements in general, but rather specific Jewish extremists accused of attacking Palestinians, while flouting international and Israeli law.
