Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said the Azerbaijani president’s criticism of the European Parliament during the European Political Community summit in Yerevan was “an example of sovereign foreign policy.”

“Moreover, in Yerevan, I witnessed an example of sovereign foreign policy, this time on the part of Azerbaijan, whose president sharply criticized the European Parliament over a series of declarations and resolutions adopted against his country,” Fico said in a video filmed aboard the government plane upon his return from Moscow.

According to him, Ilham Aliev “told the truth”: “President Aliev told the truth when he said that the European Parliament should above all deal with European problems… instead of spreading lies and meddling in the affairs of others. HAS”

The Slovak Prime Minister stressed that he was sending the same message to the European Parliament on behalf of Slovakia, referring to the recent “masterpiece” adopted by the European institution, proposing that the European Commission stops granting funds Europeans in Bratislava.

Ilham Aliev reacted to these statements in a message published on X, thanking his Slovak counterpart for his “sincere and valuable” remarks about Azerbaijan. “I highly value our partnership,†Aliev said.

Participating by videoconference at the summit of the European Political Community in Yerevan, the Azerbaijani president once again criticized the European Parliament and the Council of Europe for their “pro-Armenian resolutions” and their “provocative actions”.

A few days before the summit, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on Armenia condemning “Azerbaijan’s unjust detention of Armenian prisoners of war, detainees and hostages”, demanding their immediate and unconditional release.

The text also mentioned the right of return of Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh as well as the destruction of Armenian cultural and religious heritage.
