Niamey, May 9 (ANP) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Nigeriens Abroad, Bakary Yaou Sangaré, declared, this Saturday, May 9, 2026, that Niger continues to strengthen its diplomacy through the appointment of new ambassadors, the intensification of diplomatic exchanges as well as the placement of Nigeriens in international organizations.
In an interview with national television, the minister indicated that out of Niger’s 43 diplomatic representations around the world, 22 ambassadors have already been replaced as part of the implementation of the country’s new diplomatic policy.
According to the minister, Niger also received 29 letters of credence from new accredited ambassadors, while increasing the exchange of delegations at the international level.
The head of Nigerien diplomacy specified that Niger has sent 22 ministerial delegations abroad and received 34 over the last twelve months, considering that this dynamic testifies to the growing visibility of Niger and the AES on the international scene.

Bakary Yaou Sangaré also affirmed that Nigerien diplomacy is now working to promote the image of a sovereign Niger, committed to the defense of its strategic interests, its population and its diaspora.
The minister also announced the strengthening of the policy of placing Nigeriens in international organizations, citing in particular the presence of Niger in several African and UN bodies as well as Nigerien applications for various international positions.
He finally announced that a Nigerien should soon be appointed head of the Islamic University of Say, stressing that this would be a first since the creation of this institution.
