Two people were injured in a knife attack in London’s Golders Green district on Wednesday, April 29. An investigation is underway, according to the Prime Minister. The suspect has been arrested.

Two people were injured in a knife attack in a Jewish neighborhood of London, Golders Green (north of the city), on Wednesday, April 29, announced British Jewish organizations. “A man was seen running along Golders Green Road armed with a knife and trying to stab Jewish people in the crowd,” wrote the Shomrim North West London association on X.

They specified that the police intervened after volunteers subdued the individual and that he was arrested. Community Security Trust (CST), another Jewish association, stated on X that they “are working closely with the police and Shomrim after the attack.”

Law enforcement intervened at 11:16 am, stated the police in a press release reported by British media. “The suspect also tried to stab the officers and was neutralized with a taser before being arrested,” continued the police. They mentioned that the individual is 45 years old and that they are determining his nationality and background.

The victims are two men: a man in his seventies and a man in his thirties. “They were taken to the hospital and are in stable condition,” the police said. They added that specialized anti-terrorism officers are conducting an investigation to assess any potential links to terrorism.

Mayor refers to “a horrific attack”

In a statement on X, Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, declared: “a horrific attack was perpetrated against two Jewish Londoners in Golders Green. The police made an arrest.”

After thanking law enforcement and the Jewish association volunteers on site, he continued: “London’s Jewish community has been targeted by a series of shocking anti-Semitic attacks. Antisemitism has absolutely no place in society. Metropolitan Police have increased their high-visibility patrols in the area.”

During a speech in the House of Commons, Prime Minister Keir Starmer described this attack as “very concerning.” “A police investigation is ongoing,” he said, adding, “We must all affirm clearly our determination to combat this type of attacks, of which we have seen too many examples recently.”

Sarah Sackman, Member of Parliament for Golders Green and Finchley, stated she would be speaking “very quickly” with the Interior Minister to discuss the attack that took place in her district. “Attacks on British Jews are an attack on Britain itself. It is unacceptable for Jews to be targeted in this manner,” she wrote in a statement cited by the BBC.

Several attacks targeting Jewish community sites in a few weeks

A series of fires and attempted arson attacks have targeted Jewish community sites in northwest London in recent weeks. The first of these anti-Semitic attacks occurred at the end of March against Hatzola ambulances, followed by others targeting a synagogue in the Harrow area, and the premises of a Jewish charity organization. There were no casualties, but it raises concerns within the community.

Police have arrested 25 people in connection with these attacks, which occurred after the start of the Israeli-American offensive against Iran.

Their individual motivations have not yet been clearly established, but the police are investigating a claim by a group called Harakat al-Yamin al-Islamiyya (Hayi) which is said to be pro-Iran.

The investigations have been handed over to the counter-terrorism police, and the London police have increased their presence in this area of the capital.

These events have heightened the concerns of the Jewish community in the UK, already traumatized by the attack on a synagogue in Manchester on October 2, 2025. Two worshipers were killed and three others seriously injured.
