The Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region is a must-visit destination for French holidaymakers, according to the latest data from the Vacation Barometer survey conducted by Ipsos for Europ Assistance. With 20% of respondents planning a stay there, the region ranks at the top of the list of the most popular French destinations for getaways this summer.

In second place, Occitanie and Brittany are tied at 16%, while Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Nouvelle-Aquitaine jointly hold the third spot at 14%. This suggests that Paca is set to have a lively season, with French tourists showing a strong appetite for domestic vacations.

Global political instability, fueled by conflicts in the Middle East and skyrocketing fuel prices, is impacting air travel as well. Despite these challenges, the desire of the French to travel remains intact but their destination choices are evolving due to international uncertainties and budget constraints, with a clear preference for domestic travel, as stated by Francine Abgrall, Director of Travel Business at Europ Assistance France.

Notably, while Paca maintains its top position, there is a 6-point drop in summer vacation intentions compared to 2025, reflecting a national trend identified in the study. Overall, 80% of French people are enthusiastic about taking vacations, but there is a 6-point decline in actual travel plans compared to the previous year.

Internationally, European destinations are favored by vacationers, with Italy leading the list at 10%, followed by Spain at 9%, and Greece at 5%, according to the 2026 Vacation Barometer.
