Vietnam Prepares for APEC 2027 to Make Tangible Impact and Long-term Value
As the host country of APEC for the third time, following 2006 and 2017, Vietnam is committed to working closely with member economies to ensure the success of APEC 2027, positively shaping the forum’s cooperation in this new phase.
The statement was made by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang at the opening of the workshop on strengthening the preparation capabilities for APEC Vietnam 2027, organized by the National Secretariat of APEC 2027, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam in coordination with the U.S. State Department, on April 15 and 16 in Hanoi.
For over forty years, APEC has asserted itself as the primary economic forum in the Asia-Pacific region, significantly contributing to peace, stability, and prosperity. Amid regional and global transformations, APEC remains an essential platform for promoting dialogue, cooperation, and consensus-building among its member economies, demonstrating great adaptability to new trends and evolving situations.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang stated that Vietnam will host APEC in 2027 as the country enters a new strategic development era, aiming for double-digit growth and establishing a new growth model based on productivity, quality, efficiency, and enhancing economic competitiveness.
Vietnam elevates its foreign policy to a higher level, adopting an independent, autonomous, peaceful, friendly, multilateral, diverse approach, and actively integrating into the international community. In this context, APEC and the Asia-Pacific region remain top priorities of Vietnamese foreign policy.
Speaking at the seminar, John W. McIntyre, Charge d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi, praised Vietnam’s role within APEC, the primary economic cooperation forum in the Asia-Pacific region. He emphasized that the successful hosting of APEC in 2006 and 2017 confirmed Vietnam’s organizational, coordination, and leadership capabilities, expressing confidence that Vietnam will continue to play this role in preparing and hosting APEC 2027.
McIntyre affirmed that the United States will continue to work closely with Vietnam in preparing for APEC 2027, particularly through capacity-building programs, sharing experiences from previous APEC host countries, and connecting with international experts and partners.
During the two-day workshop, delegates will join international experts and speakers to exchange, evaluate, and summarize cooperation progress and priorities of the APEC Forum in the past, defining directions for future cooperation. They will also share experiences and receive training on key skills such as chairing and co-chairing conferences, agenda development, document negotiation, and consensus promotion.
Discussions at this workshop will positively contribute to the formulation of priorities, initiatives, and specific actions that Vietnam can promote during APEC 2027, aiming to create a tangible impact and lasting value for the region.
In the coming period, Vietnam will continue to collaborate closely with its partners, including the United States and the APEC International Secretariat, to implement concrete capacity-building activities for the success of hosting APEC Vietnam 2027.
On April 15, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang met with Charge d’Affaires John W. McIntyre of the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi, representatives from the U.S. State Department, the U.S.-APEC RISE program, as well as international experts and speakers. She expressed gratitude for the cooperation and support of partners and discussed preparations for APEC 2027.
