The President of the United States confirms that an agreement was finalized with Iran this Sunday. Donald Trump also announces the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the immediate lifting of the American naval blockade. For its part, Iran confirmed that the agreement with the United States “immediately ends the war”.
Donald Trump confirmed this Sunday, June 14, that an agreement to end the conflict in the Middle East had been “finalized” with Iran and announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz as well as the “immediate” lifting of the American naval blockade.
“The agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now finalized,” the American president wrote on his Truth Social network a few minutes after the Pakistani mediator’s announcement, Monday Pakistan time.
“I fully authorize the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz without rights of passage and, at the same time, the immediate lifting of the American naval blockade. Ships around the world, start the engines. Let the oil flow freely!”, added Donald Trump.
Iran confirms but remains suspicious
For his part, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi confirmed that the agreement with the United States put an “immediate end to the war” but specified that Iran remained “suspicious”.
“This MOU does not mean we trust the enemy […] We will monitor the implementation of the commitments made by the United States,” he added.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced earlier on the X platform that the United States and Iran had reached a “peace agreement” immediately ending all military operations in the Middle East, including in Lebanon.
An official ceremony on June 19
“Now that the agreement is concluded, the mediators will facilitate a series of meetings this week. These pre-implementation discussions will lay the foundations for the technical talks and the official signing ceremony,” which will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, on June 19, he added.
The American president announced on Saturday that an agreement would be signed on Sunday, his 80th birthday, without this information being confirmed by the Iranians.
Earlier on Sunday, he said the signing had been “delayed” by Israeli strikes on Beirut, which were denounced by Tehran.
