Warm handshake between Volodymyr Zelensky and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Earlier in the day, the Ukrainian president arrived by plane in the United Kingdom, where he is also due to meet Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
A summit convened in London to increase pressure on Russia. “The main topic is our defense in war, greater cooperation for the security of all Europe in the field of air defense and a shared vision on diplomatic prospects.”the Ukrainian president said on X.
Objective of this meeting for Volodymyr Zelensky: to obtain from his allies more ammunition for his anti-aircraft defense systems while Russia continues to bomb the country daily. In recent days alone, strikes have been carried out on kyiv and even in the south-east of Ukraine. The Ukrainian authorities also accuse Moscow of having targeted a nuclear waste storage site near the Chernobyl power plant.
Again this week, the Ukrainian president called on Vladimir Putin to end the war and proposed a face-to-face meeting with his Russian counterpart. Meeting declined by the head of the Kremlin: “I don’t see the point in a meeting. The only thing that makes sense is for the Ukrainian side to stop the advance of our armed forces.”
Immediate response from Volodymyr Zelensky, who accuses Vladimir Putin of continuing to choose war: “IHe simply does not want to admit that his war only serves his own interests and those who make money from him.” This Sunday, June 7, in Ukraine, five people were killed in bombings. 236 Russian drones were launched, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.
