The American army announced on Sunday June 7 that it had shot down two Iranian attack drones which it believed threatened maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, while no solution seems in sight to end the war in the Middle East which is entering its 100th day.
“US forces remain on alert and ready to continue to defend against Iranian aggression”wrote the American Central Command (Centcom) on its X account. Friday evening, Centcom announced that it had shot down four Iranian attack drones launched towards the strait, then struck Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites.
In retaliation, Iran said it had fired a salvo of missiles against military installations in Kuwait and Bahrain, allies of the United States. The US military claimed to have shot down six ballistic missiles, while a seventh missed its target.
Washington and Tehran have been engaged in indirect talks for several weeks with a view to ending the war in the Middle East, but the negotiations show no sign of progress.
Since the truce of April 8, hostilities had almost ceased between the United States and Iran. But they have recently resumed, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic maritime route for hydrocarbons blocked by Tehran.
