Donald Trump announced this Friday, May 28 on his Truth Social network that he was preparing to make his “final decision” on a possible agreement with Iran, suggesting that certain crucial American demands had been met.

“I will have a meeting now in the ‘Situation Room’ (editor’s note: ultra-secure room in the White House) to make a final decision,” wrote the American president.

He then mentions commitments that Tehran must make, and points that it presents as acquired. “Iran must accept that they will never have a nuclear weapon. The Strait of Hormuz must be opened immediately” and Tehran must commit to completely demining it, indicated Donald Trump, which corresponds to a major demand of the United States.

“Changing and contradictory” positions

“Ships stuck in the strait by our incredible and unprecedented naval blockade, which will now be lifted, can head home,” he said.

The enriched uranium “will be dug up by the United States (…) in close coordination with the Islamic Republic of Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency, and DESTROYED”, the American president further announced, again evoking a crucial request from Washington.

“There will be no exchange of money for the moment,” he finally clarified, adding that “other issues, of much less importance, have been resolved.”

For his part, the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abbas Araghchi, judged that “reaching a final agreement depends on stopping the attitude of the American side”. In a conversation with his Omani counterpart, he denounced “the excessive demands as well as the changing and contradictory positions” of the United States.
