In recent weeks, the main mission of the American army was to blockade Iranian ports. On the night of Monday May 25 to Tuesday May 26, it directly struck the forces of Tehran (Iran). Explosions were notably reported in the coastal town of Bandar Abbas. The targets? Missile launchers positioned near the Strait of Hormuz and ships suspected of laying mines. Strikes described as “defensive” by the American army, which says it wants to protect its bases in the region.
So, resumption of hostilities or way of influencing the negotiations? After a weekend of diplomatic negotiations, the United States still believes in an agreement, but not just any agreement. “For there to be peace, we will have to overcome differences. Then it will either be a good agreement or no agreement at all”declared Marco Rubio, Secretary of State of the United States.
Strikes immediately condemned by Iran which claims to have shot down an American drone. Via a press release read on state television, the supreme leader threatens to retaliate. “The United States no longer has any safe place in the region to carry out aggression and establish military bases. They are moving further away from their former status every day”he assures.
During the day, a maritime security agency reported the attack on an oil tanker off the coast of Oman. Is the ceasefire dead? In Lebanon, on the other front of this war, the Israeli army is extending its offensive against Hezbollah with strikes on the cities of Tire and Nabatieh, stronghold of the pro-Iran militia. Eleven people were killed in an air raid. Israel calls on residents to evacuate the area. “We will intensify the blows, the power and we will crush Hezbollah”a last côté affirmé Benjamin Netanyahou. “So, a lasting resumption of hostilities or a way of weighing on the negotiations? After a weekend where Donald Trump said he was optimistic, the hope of a rapid peace agreement today seems to be dwindling”specifies Franck Genauzeau, France Télévisions journalist in Washington (United States).
