The aid announced by the French government and spread over three months to deal with the rise in energy prices will not be called into question even if the war in the Middle East ends, the Minister for Energy, Maud Bregon, said on Sunday.

“No questioning whatever happens. It’s a commitment that we have made once again with the French, with businesses. This commitment will be kept”, said Maud Bregon, questioned on France 3 concerning a potential questioning of these measures in the event of an armistice between Iran and the United States.

“Even if the conflict ends tomorrow, the effects of this war, and in particular on the price of energy, specifically on the price of fuel, will continue for a certain time. This is why with the Prime Minister, we wanted to deploy aid within three months”, also said the delegated minister, elsewhere government spokesperson.

Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu and several of his ministers detailed on Thursday the new aid introduced to support economic activity on a new “scale”, in the face of the rise in fuel prices caused by the war in the Middle East.

In order to maintain activity, aid granted to the fishing and agricultural sectors is renewed for three months.

Aid for the purchase of fuel in the road transport sector is also extended for three months.

The compensation ceiling for low-income, heavy-duty workers, hitherto set at 50 euros, will also double to reach 100 euros. Aid will also be extended for three months from June.

Concerning this aid of 100 euros, which targets three million French people according to the government, 200,000 people have already connected to an online simulator intended to check if they are eligible, indicated Maud Bregon.

On Sunday, after months of war, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said an announcement was possible today regarding a deal with Iran that could officially end the war in the Middle East, triggered by Israeli-US strikes on the 28th. February.
