On the afternoon of May 14, at the headquarters of the National Assembly in Hanoi, its President Trân Thanh Mân, chaired a working session with the Standing Committee of the Defense and Security Commission and foreign affairs concerning the deployment of major missions for the year 2026.

In 2026, legislative development constitutes a central task. The Commission will examine the draft law amending the Law on Representations of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Abroad. It will work closely with the Ministries of Police, Defense and Foreign Affairs to prepare the 2026-2027 legislative program, including laws on data security, the fight against the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, the treatment of post-war mines and international agreements. At the same time, it will revise fundamental texts such as the Law on People’s Public Security, the Law on Officers and that on the entry and exit of foreigners…

President Trân Thanh Mâna appreciates the results of the Commission during XVe legislature. He recalled that despite the complexity of certain files, the laws were adopted with a high consensus. Parliamentary diplomacy effectively served the Party’s line of independence and autonomy, strengthening national prestige and protecting sovereign interests. However, he frankly noted inadequacies in the concrete effectiveness of certain external activities and in the coordination and information sharing mechanisms.

For the remaining months of 2026, he urged a profound renewal of legal thinking to institutionalize the resolutions of the XIVe National Party Congress and Resolution 59 on international integration. The Commission must ensure the rigorous integration of defense and national security imperatives in each bill. He also asked to accelerate the drafting of the resolution on the supervision of international treaties to ensure concrete and rapid application of the voted texts.

Regarding supervision, the highest legislator called for increased control of the execution of international commitments and bilateral cooperation agreements. On the diplomatic side, priorities must go to strategic partners and multilateral forums. A rigorous coordination mechanism must be finalized as of May 2026. He insisted on strict periodic monitoring, requiring a monthly and quarterly review of the implementation of the commitments signed by the AN with its partners.

Finally, the leader called for a transition to a more intensive work pace, where each member clearly defines their responsibilities. He particularly focused on digital transformation and artificial intelligence to optimize policy analysis and reduce administrative pressures. Expressing his confidence in the Commission, he stressed that solidarity and determination will make it possible to meet the challenges of the new legislature.
