The response of the Chadian air force was not long in coming after the “devastating night assaults†– as described Modern Ghana – jihadist groups against the Barka Tolorom military base, which left 25 dead, including two generals, and 46 injured on May 4. “Chadian fighter jets target islands in Lake Chad controlled by Boko Haram, near the borders between Nigeria, Niger and Chad†, announcement Africa Radio. The pan-African site specifies that “the strikes would have notably targeted the island of Shuwa, described as a jihadist stronghold and an important fishing center frequented by Nigerian fishermen†.
Consequences of these strikes: “An official from the Lake Chad fishermen’s union says at least 40 Nigerian fishermen are missing and likely drowned during the bombings.†Most of the victims would come from the town of Doron Baga, on the Nigerian shores of the lake. This same locality was the target of a massacre which caused the death of 2,000 people in 2015.
The Nigerian press is not currently commenting on this assertion coming from its neighbor, while its national army is regularly accused of bombing civilians. The last episode was a few weeks ago, when reviews
