A highly technological weapon. A Ukrainian border guard from the Hart brigade managed to neutralize a Russian attack drone in the Kharkiv region without firing a single shot. The attack, which once again highlights the growing importance of electronic warfare on the ground, was recorded and broadcast by the National Border Guard Service of Ukraine on Wednesday.

The Russian target was a fixed-wing Molniya-type drone, commonly used by the Russian army for reconnaissance but also attack missions, reports Defense Express. Rather than using conventional weapons, the operator used an anti-drone rifle, an electronic warfare device designed to disrupt the operation of drones.

In the images, we can see the Ukrainian soldier pointing the Molniya with his anti-drone rifle before activating it. Very quickly, the drone lost its stability before falling uncontrollably and crashing in a field, before exploding.

Powerful radio frequency signals

Anti-drone guns work by emitting powerful radio frequency signals that cut the connection between the drone and its pilot. Once the link is severed, most drones lose their ability to control flight and are forced to either land or crash.

Unlike traditional methods, this technological weapon reduces the risk of collateral damage, saves ammunition and also allows operators to neutralize threats without revealing their position through fire.

The National Border Guard Service emphasized that electronic warfare systems are among the most effective means of countering enemy drones.
