A (very) long negative series and relegation recorded
FC Metz’s last victory dates back to December 20, in the Coupe de France against Biesheim (N2). In Ligue 1, we even have to dig deeper: November 9, i.e. 20 matches in a row (including 15 defeats). At the start of this very long negative series, the Lorraines came out of three victories in a row (Lens, Nantes, Nice) and regained hope.
A hope that no longer exists since Messins have been officially relegated to Ligue 2 since the defeat against Monaco (1-2) last Saturday.
By far the worst defense in Ligue 1
Promoted alongside Lorient and Paris FC, Metz sank especially on the defensive level. It is by far the worst defense in the championship (72 goals conceded, or 2.25 per match on average).
The Dane Jonathan Fischer, who arrived last summer, conceded 56 in 26 matches. His replacement Pape Sy, who has been promoted to the starting position for a month and a half, is not doing much better: 16 goals conceded in 7 games.
Gauthier Hein biggest danger, several young people present
Returning to his training club last season, Gauthier Hein successfully moved to the next level. The 29-year-old winger scored eight times and delivered seven decisive passes. He is, by far, the most dangerous player at FC Metz. Also back, Habib Diallo had a more difficult season. He has only scored four times, the last one dating back to January 25.
To prepare for next season several young people are starting to make their mark in the first team: Believe Munongo (16 years old), Jahyann Pandore (18 years old), scorer against Le Havre (4-4) or Nathan Mbala (18 years old).
