On the eve of her visit to Calvi this Thursday 30 April for the traditional Cameroon Arm-Taking, emblematic celebration of the 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment (2nd REP), Minister Delegate for the Armed Forces, Alice Rufo, granted an exclusive interview to Corse-Matin. She discusses the significance of this event, the role of the armed forces in Corsica, and current geopolitical challenges.
What does Camerone represent for you and why did you decide to be present this year?
Camerone is the great celebration of the Foreign Legion. It is an extremely strong moment, deeply rooted in the traditions of the French army. It is a celebration aimed at both the military and the population. After the ceremony, the fair is a moment of sharing that strengthens the bond between the army and the territory. For me, it is essential to come into contact with the forces. And particularly here, at the 2nd REP, which is an elite regiment involved in almost all major operations of the French army. Their combat experience is remarkable. I wanted to be present to pay tribute to them and participate in this very important celebration, also deeply rooted in Balagne.
