The prefect, Jean-Marie Girier (in the middle), and the departmental military delegate, General Jean Laurentin (on his left), were seen at the Palais Beaumont in Pau this Monday.

The forum was described by Jean-Marie Girier, prefect of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, as a hands-on approach to industrial professions, highlighting the dual industries, at the crossroads of civilian and military uses. This is a first in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. There is a need for 900 positions in the Adour basin in the next two years, with an additional 300 openings just in the next quarter.

Nearly 700 people attended the forum in Pau, including high school students from the 64 area, job seekers selected for training, or those in career transition. The event was supported by various organizations from the industry and employment sectors.

The event aims to familiarize young people with military and industrial professions, emphasizing the connection between what is produced and its purpose. It also seeks to strengthen ties between industries and the military.

The defense week in the 64 area runs from Monday, April 20th to Friday, April 24th. The event serves to bridge the military and industrial sectors, educating young individuals who may consider careers in these fields in the future.

General Jean Laurentin highlighted the significant military presence in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, with 4,500 active military personnel between Béarn and the Basque Country.

The initiative aims to involve various stakeholders in the defense and security of the country, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the military, industries, education, and citizens.

Young participants expressed interest in learning about defense-related industries and opportunities, with some considering future careers in the field.

Overall, the event serves as an educational platform to introduce diverse audiences to the defense sector, highlighting the importance of collective engagement in national defense efforts.
