During a speech at the Pentagon on Wednesday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth linked a biblical verse to a famous, but fictional, rant from the movie Pulp Fiction, recited by Samuel L. Jackson.

During a speech in front of military personnel on Wednesday, April 15, the Pentagon chief stood out by quoting a verse from the Bible… actually taken from the film Pulp Fiction.

While giving his speech, Pete Hegseth wanted to share a prayer that had been recited by mission leader Sandy 1, the rescue mission for two American pilots whose planes were shot down in Iran.

He began his tirade, related to the biblical verse Ezekiel 25, by replacing the term “eternal” with “Sandy 1,” before reciting the following part:

“The path of the downed aviator is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of friendship and duty, shepherds the lost through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children.”

However, in reality, this passage does not exist in the Bible. This text was written for Samuel L. Jackson in an iconic scene from the movie Pulp Fiction.

Although the tirade is partially drawn from the Book of Ezekiel, chapter 25, verse 17, the American Defense Secretary continued his remarks by making a more direct reference to Quentin Tarantino’s film.

“And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is Sandy 1 when I lay my vengeance upon you,” recited the Pentagon strongman.

In the actual Bible passage, the message is written as follows: “I will execute great vengeance on them with wrathful rebukes. Then they will know that I am the Lord, when I lay my vengeance upon them.”

These remarks have sparked strong reactions on social media, although the official has not yet responded to the controversy.
