Police officer saves family from burning house

Officer Rogers kicked down the front door to rescue the family trapped by flames. Thanks to his actions, no one was injured.

A scene straight out of an action movie. In early May, Officer Rogers saved a mother and her two children, trapped in their burning house in Chattanooga, a city in Tennessee.

Footage from an outdoor surveillance camera shows Officer Rogers running to the second-floor apartment, kicking down the front door and rescuing Mrs. Blaylock’s four-year-old daughter. Mrs. Blaylock can be seen following him with her 10-year-old son.

Another perspective from a body camera shows the officer rescuing the child struggling to breathe in the smoke-filled house.

“He just shrugged”

“He’s a hero,” said the mother. “Police officers are not trained to fight fires, but they swear to serve and protect. And that’s exactly what Officer Rogers did,” stated the Chattanooga Police Department in a press release.

According to the Chattanooga firefighters, no injuries were reported, and the fire was under control within 20 minutes of the teams’ intervention.

The mother told local media that she “tried to thank” (Officer Rogers) “that night, but he just shrugged, as if it was just another day at work.” The family has launched a donation appeal to cover relocation expenses.
