Trump Mobile has announced that it has started delivering its T1 smartphones to customers for $499, which were delayed for several months after the originally scheduled release date in August for this golden-colored device.

This mobile phone company, launched last year by the Trump Organization under a brand license agreement, delayed the release of the T1 first to October, then to this week, as questions arose about the feasibility of manufacturing a low-cost smartphone in the United States.

“Pre-ordered phones are starting to be delivered to customers this week,” said Pat O’Brien, CEO of Trump Mobile, in a statement to Reuters. He explained that the launch was delayed as the company had to go through several development and testing stages to ensure that the phone components met quality standards.

The T1 Phone, in gold color, features a 6.78-inch screen, Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, triple camera system, a 5,000 mAh battery, and runs on Android.

The company has not disclosed the number of pre-ordered or shipped phones due to competition reasons, but indicated that they plan to fulfill pending orders in the coming weeks.

Trump Mobile made its debut in the highly competitive American mobile phone market as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), offering services through existing operators’ infrastructure at a monthly price of $47.45, in reference to Donald Trump being the 45th and 47th President of the United States.

This launch has been closely scrutinized by ethics experts and lawmakers as the company uses the Trump name while the president is still in office. Democrats have questioned T-Mobile about its relationship with the Trump brand service and expressed concerns about potential conflicts of interest.

A White House spokesman stated that there are no conflicts of interest and that the president’s assets are being managed by his children in a trust.

Industry analysts have also questioned Trump Mobile’s claims about domestic manufacturing. The company initially presented the T1 as a “designed and manufactured in the United States” phone, despite the lack of significant smartphone manufacturing infrastructure on American soil.

Mr. O’Brien stated that the initial T1 devices were “assembled in the United States” and that the company’s ultimate goal is to market a phone with most components manufactured in the United States.
