The G20 summit will take place on December 14-15 in Miami, United States, at a golf resort owned by the Trump family. “No decision has been made yet,” Russia stated.
Donald Trump expressed his doubts on Thursday, April 23, about Russian President Vladimir Putin attending the G20 summit scheduled for December in Florida. “To be honest, I doubt he will come,” said the American president when asked if the Russian president was invited.
Earlier on Thursday, a senior White House official confirmed to AFP that Russia would indeed be invited to the G20 summit. Moscow, however, has not immediately commented on whether Vladimir Putin will be present in person.
“No formal invitation has been issued yet, but Russia is a member of the G20 and will be invited to participate in the ministerial meetings and the leaders’ summit,” a source who requested anonymity mentioned. The Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alexander Pankin, stated on Wednesday that his country had been invited to participate in the summit “at the highest level.”
“No decision of this nature has been made yet,” said the Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on Thursday, emphasizing that it is undetermined whether President Putin will participate.
Facing a warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC) for “war crimes” in relation to the Russian offensive in Ukraine, Vladimir Putin did not attend the previous G20 summit in Johannesburg in November 2025. This year, the United States holds the rotating presidency of the G20, a forum for economic cooperation among the world’s major developed and emerging countries.
