A few weeks after the resignation of medical coordinator Nicolas-Pierre Bernot, FC Nantes sees another important departure with the club’s doctor.
The atmosphere within the medical sector of FC Nantes continues to be particularly tense. After the announced resignation in early May of medical coordinator Nicolas-Pierre Bernot, now the club’s doctor, Isabelle Salaün, has decided to leave the Canaries, as reported by Ouest-France.
Arriving in August 2019 to succeed Dr. Marc Dauty, this 55-year-old from Angers played a central role in the medical organization of the Nantes club. Her departure comes during a period of internal turbulence, as the functioning of the medical staff has been heavily criticized in recent weeks.
A crisis triggered by the remarks of Waldemar Kita
The situation escalated after a statement by Nantes president Waldemar Kita on April 27. In an interview with Eurosport, the official mentioned alerts from the medical sector regarding the work of the sports staff.
These remarks quickly caused discomfort internally and fueled speculation about possible tensions between different parts of the club. In the days that followed, Nicolas-Pierre Bernot found himself at the center of the controversy, suspected of being the source of the information passed on to the management.
The physiotherapist then announced his departure at the end of the season, denouncing accusations he deemed unfair and claiming to be a “scapegoat” in this matter.
The medical sector deeply weakened
Isabelle Salaün’s departure marks a new stage in this internal crisis. A recognized doctor in French football circles, she had become an important figure in the Nantes medical setup over the seasons.
With these two successive departures, FC Nantes will have to rebuild part of its medical organization before the next season. This reorganization comes as the club is already going through a delicate period both in terms of sports performance and institutionally.
Behind the scenes, this succession of departures now raises questions about the overall stability of the internal functioning of the Canaries and the potential consequences this crisis could have in the coming weeks.
