International celebrations, events and initiatives take place each year, during this Pride month, in order to remember the fight for the (civil) rights of different communities. This “Pride Month” comes from the Stonewall riots of June 28, 1969, in New York.

“In partnership with the ADRC (Agency for Regional Cinema Development), specifies Baptiste Blondel, director of the Nantua cinema, who offered us different titles to liven up this Pride month, we have chosen four films which are screened every Thursday evening in June, at 8 p.m. h 30.»

Four films on the program

Pridea film by Matthew Warchus was screened on June 4. During the summer of 1984, in England, the National Union of Mineworkers voted for a strike and came up against the intransigent policies of Margaret Thatcher and the repression of the police. The film evokes, often with humor, the solidarity of a group of gay and lesbian activists who come to the aid of minors, but also the homophobia of some, the hesitations, the misunderstandings of others and the evolution of behavior: it is the extraordinary story of two communities that are completely opposed and who unite finally to defend the same cause.

Pédale ruralea film by Antoine Vasquez (at the cinema on March 4) will be screened this Thursday, June 11. “It’s the moving story of Benoît who struggles to escape his isolation, has built his paradise out of sight, comes into conflict with his own identity, finally emancipates himself in his own way…”, in the words of Marilou Duponchel, of Unrocketible.

Two other screenings are planned: the Hong Kong film Happy Togetherby Wong Kar-Wai, released in 1997, on Thursday June 18 and Priscilla, you silly dessert (1994), by Stéphane Elliott, Thursday June 25.
