It was one of the last gaps in his career achievements. It is now filled. Jannik Sinner clinched the title at the Rome Masters 1000 on Sunday, May 17, in the final against Casper Ruud (6-4, 6-4 in 1h44). Two days after some scares against Daniil Medvedev, he did not let the Norwegian, 25th in the world rankings, hinder him.

In a steady manner, he turned the tables at the end of the first set after conceding an early break. Sinner got back on track with several well-placed drop shots. Not as overwhelming as in his last encounter with Ruud, in Rome last year (6-1, 6-0), the world number one did not have to exert his full talent to secure his 29th consecutive victory on the ATP circuit. His last defeat dates back to February 19, in the quarter-finals in Doha, Qatar, against Jakub Mensik.

He also became the first Italian tennis player to win in Rome since Adriano Panatta (1976), who presented him with the trophy on Sunday. Even more impressively, he has now won all three Masters 1000 on clay in the calendar, a feat Rafael Nadal accomplished only once in his career, in 2010.

A week before his debut at Roland-Garros, the Italian appears as the overwhelming favorite for the Parisian Grand Slam tournament, especially since his final opponent from the previous edition, Carlos Alcaraz, has already withdrawn.
