The Senegalese football wants to put an end to mystical practices and charms. After several incidents in the local Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, the Senegalese Professional Football League announces its intention to ban these “occult” practices and promises severe sanctions to restore the credibility of the professional championship.

The witch hunt has begun in Senegal. The country aims to move on from mysticism in football stadiums. In a statement released by PressAfrik, the Senegalese Professional Football League firmly condemns “the introduction and use of occult practices in certain sports venues.”

According to the league, deviations were observed during the 26th and 27th matchdays of Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 before being widely shared on social media.

“The competition should be based on preparation, discipline, sporting merit, and loyalty.”

For the LSFP, the message is clear: these practices have no place in a championship that aims to structure itself and increase credibility. The league believes they “have no basis in high-level football practice” and emphasizes that “competition should be based on preparation, discipline, sporting merit, and loyalty.”

It also argues that this public exposure damages the image of the championship internationally and “compromises the efforts to develop Senegalese professional football.”

Sanctions are planned against the clubs involved

This is not the first time: as early as 2023, the league had already announced its intent to crack down on mystical practices, with penalties including fines, points deductions, or matches lost on a technicality.

In its statement, the league also calls on clubs to take responsibility: “The LSFP invites all clubs to support its efforts by raising awareness among their executives, technical staff, and players, and ensuring that no such practices are tolerated.”
