The suspense was thin, it is now lifted. Arriving in Lens on Wednesday evening with a six-point lead, only two matches to play, and a significantly favorable goal difference, Paris Saint-Germain only needed a point to secure the Ligue 1 title. Mission accomplished, with a victory at the Bollaert-Delelis stadium, despite a good performance from Lens.
This is the 14th French championship title for Parisians, who experienced this joy for the first time in 1986. After a second title in 1994, the arrival of QSI in 2011 allowed the capital club to grow and stack up trophies, with 12 titles in 15 seasons. Only Montpellier (2012), Monaco (2017), and Lille (2021) managed to stop the Parisian dominance over the years.
Since 2022, Paris Saint-Germain has been unbeatable. Their supporters can now celebrate the 5th consecutive national title, bringing them closer to Lyon’s record, unbeatable between 2002 and 2008 with seven consecutive titles.
In the overall honors of Ligue 1, PSG is indeed at the top with its 14 trophies. Followed by Saint-Étienne, stuck at ten and hoping to dream again if promoted via the Ligue 2 playoffs, Marseille (9), Nantes, and Monaco (8 each). These are clubs that expect to see the difference increase due to the outrageous dominance of the capital club on the national stage.
