Chelsea suffered a 3-1 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest on Monday, marking their sixth consecutive loss in the league. The only bright spot was Joao Pedro’s acrobatic goal in stoppage time, which helped the Blues avoid a sixth straight defeat without scoring in the Premier League.
Currently, Chelsea and interim coach Calum McFarlane, who replaced Liam Rosenior, sit in ninth place with 48 points, trailing fifth-placed Aston Villa by ten points. On the other hand, Nottingham Forest’s victory propels them closer to safety, moving them six points clear of West Ham, who are in the relegation zone.
Nottingham Forest can now focus on their Europa League semi-final second leg against Aston Villa after winning the first leg 1-0. In contrast, Chelsea’s season seems to be in turmoil, despite an upcoming FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 16, where they can still secure a trophy and a spot in the Europa League.
Chelsea faced early setbacks against Nottingham Forest, conceding two goals in the first 15 minutes and witnessing Matz Sels save a penalty from Cole Palmer. Additionally, 18-year-old Jesse Derry suffered a head injury and had to be substituted. Nottingham’s Taiwo Awoniyi scored a brace, adding to Chelsea’s tough night.
This recent losing streak is Chelsea’s first six-game league losing streak since November 1993. Their upcoming matches include fixtures against Liverpool, Tottenham, and Sunderland.
