As the ground offensive of the State of Israel intensifies in southern Lebanon and entire villages are wiped off the map, events of support organized by the Lebanese diaspora in France are multiplying. The figures communicated by the emergency operations center of the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health are alarming: at least 2,500 deaths, nearly 8,000 injured, and over a million displaced in Lebanon since March 2, the start of the latest war between Israel and Hezbollah.
“Despite the ceasefire, regularly violated by Israeli strikes, the crisis remains complete for our brothers and sisters in Lebanon,” says Reem Ismail, founder of The Girl From Tripoli, a research and artistic production lab.
Initiated by this Franco-Lebanese, settled in Paris since 2017, the solidarity event testifies to the shared feeling of the Lebanese diaspora in France who, in disarray, are experiencing this same distance war.
“I was reading in recent days the Franco-Lebanese neuroscientist Albert Moukheiber, who explains that our brain is made to take action, and that experiencing an event without being able to react is an extremely difficult state to manage. It is precisely from this need to act that our decision to create Oumsiya was born,” explains the teacher-researcher at the University Paris Dauphine.
