The ASPTT Caen still has a chance to achieve an impressive double. They have a maximum of six games left to play. Three are in the Regional 1 league. They need to win all three matches and hope that Rouen’s reserve team loses a game to secure the first spot, which leads to promotion to the National 3 league. After their defeat to Rouen (0-2), ASPTT Caen no longer controls their fate in the league. However, they are in a strong position in the Normandy Cup, having qualified for the quarter-finals after a 3-2 win against Cherbourg on May 1, 2026.
“Since the start of the season, I’ve been telling the players to take each game as it comes, trying to win as many as possible. We will focus on the next match against a strong team like AG Caen in a beautiful derby, while hoping for a misstep from Rouen.”
Following the game against AG, Rouen will play against Hérouville on Sunday, May 10, 2026. The Caen team aims to finish a long season with “lots of freshness, lots of enthusiasm.” They now face a crucial final stretch with a victory over Cherbourg in the Normandy Cup confirming their status as favorites.
“Mission accomplished, congratulations to the players”
Even though they had faced Cherbourg in a friendly match before, the Caen team knew they were strong opponents. Coach Laurent Dufour praised the players for their performance, acknowledging that there is still room for improvement. While Cherbourg initially took the lead, ASPTT Caen managed to secure a victory, despite facing challenges in the second half.
“We had a lot of fluidity in the game in the first half. We put in a lot of effort to maintain pressure. In the second half, we lacked energy. Their technical quality in midfield troubled us. We lacked control.”
ASPTT Caen showed their hunger for success by securing a well-deserved victory. The quarter-finals will take place on the weekend of June 6 and 7, after the final round of league matches scheduled for the previous weekend.
