Following the defeat of OM against Lorient (2-0) in the 30th round of Ligue 1, Pascal Dupraz strongly criticized Habib Beye during the Grandes Gueules du Sport show on RMC this Sunday.

Pascal Dupraz did not hold back in his comments about Habib Beye. Appointed on February 18th as the head of OM, the former Rennes coach is having a tough time in Marseille. On Saturday, the Marseille team was defeated by Lorient (2-0) in the 30th round of Ligue 1, putting them in a difficult position in the race for a direct qualification to the Champions League podium.

Against Lorient, Marseille once again showed defensive weaknesses, with ineffective offensive dominance. “In the game, we can’t see anything,” Dupraz stated on the Grandes Gueules du Sport show on RMC. “Even though Habib Beye explains things to us, he explains them so much that I don’t understand anything.”

“Maybe it’s modern football, but I don’t understand anything,” Pascal Dupraz emphasized. “The half-spaces, the boxes or not, the formations with hybrid schemes… Apparently, hybrid doesn’t last many kilometers. Give us some diesel, some gasoline, but speak to us truthfully. Show us a team that goes into the opponent’s team and shows their superiority.”

Now a consultant after his playing career, Habib Beye was appointed as the head of Rennes in January 2025 for his first experience in Ligue 1. He was let go by the Breton club on February 9th, and immediately returned to Marseille, where he dreamed of coaching.

“I am sorry to speak this way about a colleague,” Dupraz said, recalling Beye’s past criticisms of French coaches when he was a consultant. “I shouldn’t, but it’s tiring, especially because this colleague, when he was behind a microphone, didn’t forget to criticize us, French coaches, who were considered fragile and timid, without many ideas.”

In the standings, OM is two points behind LOSC, the current third-place team. Marseille could fall to sixth place if OL and Rennes win against PSG and Strasbourg, respectively. “Here, he is in the middle of the pack with his players. Since he arrived, he has lost four matches and won four in Ligue 1,” noted the former coach of Evian Thonon Gaillard and Toulouse. “He has regressed compared to his predecessor (Roberto De Zerbi) who had a 56% win rate in 55 league matches. OM is going in all directions, except the right one.”
