À A year before the election, the French are beginning to clarify their expectations regarding the next President of the Republic, according to a survey conducted by Elabe for La Tribune Dimanche and published by BFMTV.
In a context of progressive preparation by the main political parties, the survey highlights a demand for stability and credibility in the presidential profile.
Indeed, 51% of those surveyed believe that the future head of state should be a political leader, compared to 36% for a business leader. Moreover, political sensitivities remain divided among the right (28%), left (19%), and center (16%).
As for age, the French set the ideal average at 47 years old. In detail, almost half of the respondents (49%) prefer the 45-54 age group, while very young or older profiles are less desired.
In line with these expectations, human qualities appear to be central. Honesty ranks highest at 76%, followed by closeness to citizens (55%) and courage (48%).
Regarding political priorities, purchasing power dominates concerns (44%), followed by security (31%), health (30%), public debt, and immigration (28%). Education comes next at 21%.
Furthermore, expectations vary according to political sensitivities: the left emphasizes social issues, the center focuses on debt and security, while the far-right highlights immigration and purchasing power.
Finally, regarding the role of the president, 57% of the French want a leader capable of calming and uniting, even at the cost of slowing down reforms. In contrast, 42% prefer a reformist president, even if it means creating divisions.
It should be noted that one year before the deadline, 45% of respondents already feel that they will find a candidate matching their expectations, indicating a political landscape still in the process of structuring.
