LE SCAN SPORT – After a statement from Victor Wembanyama expressing his desire to try rugby, UBB manager Yannick Bru invited the Frenchman to Bordeaux.

Perhaps an unlikely meeting? While French phenomenon Victor Wembanyama expressed his interest in trying rugby in an interview with ESPN, Yannick Bru, the manager of Union Bordeaux-Bègles, responded positively to the request.

“There is one thing I wanted to do but couldn’t last year, and that is to train with a rugby team. They have movement patterns that my body is not used to. And I could apply that to what I do in basketball. It’s very interesting,” the 22-year-old basketball player confessed.

During a press conference before the trip to La Rochelle (this Saturday, 2:30 pm), Yannick Bru invited “Wemby” to come train in Bordeaux. “The doors are wide open. I think there will be a guy on the staff who will be very happy, Shaun Sowerby, the way he bangs his head on the sideline, it should simplify a lot of things for him. Make sure to tell Victor that he is welcome at UBB and we will use his skills.”

For now, and before the possibility of a future collaboration, UBB and Victor Wembanyama are focused on other goals. After their big win against Toulouse in the Champions Cup (30-15) last weekend, Bordeaux is now gearing up for the semi-final against Bath on May 3. Before that, Bru’s team will travel to La Rochelle this Saturday for the 21st round of Top 14 and host Montpellier the following weekend. As for Wembanyama, the NBA playoffs with the Spurs will kick off Sunday night against Portland.
