Gaël Monfils and Stan Wawrinka await Roland-Garros wild-card decision

They have experienced the lights of the Central Court, the thrills of big nights, and the unforgettable ovations. But when it comes to the reckoning, Gaël Monfils and Stan Wawrinka will have to wait. Following the rankings update on Monday, the list of direct entrants for Roland-Garros 2026 has left them only with a sliver of hope: wild cards.

At 39 years old and ranked outside the top 200, Monfils could not expect better. Now, all that remains is an invitation that leaves little doubt. Barring any physical setbacks, the Parisian crowd should witness a final dance of “La Monf” at Roland-Garros, as his story with Porte d’Auteuil calls for one last chapter.

Wawrinka’s situation is a bit more cruel. Ranked 107th in the world, the 2015 champion falls just short of the cut. At 41 years old, in his last season, the Swiss player remains in the balance. “Stan the Man” could still directly qualify for the tournament in case of multiple withdrawals, or else, he would likely benefit from an invitation.

Qualifications, a first for Dimitrov?

Behind these two giants, another reality emerges – that of a circuit with no mercy. Outside the top 100 again, Grigor Dimitrov should, unless given an invitation, take the path of qualifying rounds, a first for him in Paris since 2011. Among the French players, 14 individuals are already assured of a spot in the main draw, pending the issuance of invitations and completion of the qualification process to finalize the French delegation.

On the women’s side, the French representation is currently limited to three players: Loës Boisson (44th), Elsa Jacquemot (60th), and Diane Parry (100th).

There is a much higher density in the men’s field, where eleven players have already secured their spots: Arthur Rinderknech (26th), Arthur Fils (30th), Corentin Moutet (31st), Ugo Humbert (34th), Terence Atmane (41st), Adrian Mannarino (46th), Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard (53rd), Valentin Royer (77th), Quentin Halys (90th), Alexandre Müller (95th), and Luca Van Assche (100th).
