Head of Air and Space Music since January 1, 2026, Lieutenant-Colonel Didier Descamps will conduct, this Friday at 8:30 p.m. at the Antique Theater, the second part of the free concert given for the 90th anniversary of Air and Space Music.
Why Music of Air and Space?
“I started music when I was five. I studied at the National Conservatory of the Douai Region and then in 1985, I returned to the Army to do my military service. I already had an interest in conducting orchestras, and the people I met guided me. Nothing destined me for the military world, I wanted to become independent and I took different exams to become a non-commissioned officer and an officer. I came in through the back door.”
“Music is that of all aviators”
How to transmit the values of the Army through music?
“The Air Force is respect, integrity, service, excellence. Music is that of all aviators, it is a privileged link between the Army and the Nation. The excellence of the Music of Air and Space is due to its reputation, its quality of performance, it is not common to give a concert at the ancient theater. »
What does the Music of Air and Space represent for you?
“Someone who belongs to the music chiefs of the Armies is the marshal. This is the pinnacle level for an instrumentalist. It’s an absolutely incredible orchestra, in all objectivity, it’s excellence, the holy grail.”
