Imagine an expert capable of spotting the slightest of your little lies from miles away. This man exists, his name is Giorgio Thomas. A seasoned behaviorist with 25 years of experience, he is the grand master of new original format from the melty brand : “Beat a mentalist”.
Facing him, three candidates that you obviously know and who excel in the art of comedy and directing: Jean-Benoît Diallo, the “next gen” comedian with a sharp delivery. Justin Barthélémy, born actor and king of the counter-footage. Shona-Liz, the fashion and lifestyle content creator adored by the networks. Their goal? Achieve the impossible. Join forces, manipulate, bluff and mask their emotions to try to uncover Giorgio’s secrets and, why not, dethrone him in a high-tension finale.
Sadistic tests to make the masks fall
To test the limits of our three content creators, at Melty, we pulled out all the stops with formidable psychological tests. From the first round, candidates must give themselves false phobias. Between the fear of fairground rides, piles of algae in the sea or even the phobia of mascots, Giorgio Thomas must detect the true from the false. If he’s wrong, he loses.
The tension goes up a notch with the exercise of “Who did this?”. Blindfolded and with ears blocked by earplugs, the behaviorist must guess who moved objects (a tennis ball, glasses or cards). His technique? Analyze non-verbal language as soon as he removes his blindfold. As Giorgio points out: “To get to the bottom of them, we have to work on how we see each other.”
Beating a mentalist: intuition stronger than logic?
But the cruelest moment undoubtedly remains the test of the dilemma. With three envelopes containing points, the last one in the ranking distributes the scores, the second can modify the choice, and the first has the last word. At this stage, Shona-Liz is bottom and Jean-Benoît is second. Between the three friends, only one rule prevails: everyone plays for themselves and everything can change!
In the fourth round, the roles are reversed: it is up to the players to read the mind of the mentalist. Giorgio takes the opportunity to slip a fascinating secret into the confessional: “If someone is spontaneously told to choose a card, the 10 almost never comes up, just like the 4; the queen of hearts and the ace of spades come out at 80%.” So, who will do best?
See you Saturday June 20 at 6 p.m. to find out who Jean-Benoît, Shona or Justin will win the game.
