The Cinema Paradiso will very soon begin a new phase of its moult à Aunay-sur-Odon (Les Monts d’Aunay), in Calvados.
In fact, the rehabilitation and accessibility work of the existing projection room and the creation of a second room, started at the end of summer 2025, are progressing and will thus move on to the next step at the end of May 2026.
Four months closed to the public
Now that the extension – with the new room – has been built and all the major work part effectuallythe site will be able to concentrate on the cleaningthe désamiantage and all work relating to the connexion between the two rooms, whether in terms of access, heating…
As a result, Paradiso will have to completely closed during this periodwhich begins on Monday June 1 and is expected to last four months.
During this stage, we finish the creation of the new room and its connection with the existing space. We should receive this new, fully functional room at the beginning of October. But there will then be a little adaptation time necessary to get to grips with it before it opens to the public.
The same cinema experience in both theaters
Thus, Paradiso spectators should be able to return there to see a film “ from mid-October HAS”. It will then be in the newly built room, and only in this one, since the historic room will be in turn under construction.
Accessibility will be brought up to standard to accommodate all audiences, a more spacious reception hall, with ticketing, confectionery for screenings and capacity for on-site seating will be created, and the cinema experience will also be improved. We are refurbishing with new seats, a new screen, so that the projection quality is exactly the same as in the new room; the only difference will be the number of seats between the two. It was something very important for us and for the Paradiso association, with which we worked on this project.
The opening of cinema in its intégralitéwith its two rooms, is expected for March 2027.
