This week, South Australian police have carried out new searches near Oak Park Station, where Gus Lamont disappeared last September. The little boy has not been found, investigators are struggling to find new leads.
Gus Lamont, 4 years old, mysteriously disappeared on September 27 at Oak Park Station, while he was in front of his family home in South Australia. This week, the police searched for three days to find the little boy, to no avail.
Update on the excavations
“Despite searches carried out over the past three days by Taskforce Horizon detectives and STAR Group agents over more than 30 km of rivers and streams, no new evidence has been discovered.”note the police in a press release.
Several wells and boreholes in the area following recent heavy rains and flooding on the property were also examined. But for more than eight months now, the police have not found any trace of the missing child.
“We have already carried out aerial searches within a radius of 15 km around the property, in particular using drones. All images captured have been analyzed by artificial intelligence”said Darren Fielke, head of the major crimes investigation section.
“Like the ground searches carried out this week, given the recent weather conditions, we are taking the opportunity to search this area again using aerial platforms”he added.
The latter indicated that new excavations could be carried out in “the weeks to come”.
Is Gus dead?
As a reminder, at the end of September last year, the little boy was playing near the family home, located on an isolated farm in South Australia. But shortly after 5 p.m., the child was no longer there. The authorities were quickly alerted to this disappearance and search operations were launched.
The affair then received worldwide media attention. From France to England, via the United States, the disappearance of the little boy is causing ink to flow in many countries.
If the family track does not seem to be favored, the investigators were however interested in the versions delivered by the different members, one of whom presented several inconsistencies.“We are still working with Gus’ parents, and other family members are no longer cooperating”the police chief subsequently declared. For the moment, no person has been implicated in this case but today, the authorities believe that Gus is dead.
