“By the power of the ancestral skull” will not resonate in the cinemas of France: it is somewhere else that will have to be savored (or not) The Masters of the Universe.
In the license category of fantasy cult whose first cinematic adaptation was a humiliation, The Masters of the Universe has a place of choice, alongside Dungeons and Dragons. And like the famous role-playing game, the iconic cartoon of the 1980s is entitled to its redemption decades later. It’s Travis Knight, famous for his career with Laika and the film Transformers Bumblebee (or not), who was responsible for reinjecting a little steroids into the biscuits of He-Man, nag alter ego of Prince Adam of Eternia.
In the United States, this late adventure where Adam finds his sword after 15 years and returns to Eternia to free it from Skeletor’s yoke will be visible in theaters from June 5. In France, it’s official, after a lot of doubts and rumors: we will have to do without the big screen.
Masters of the Universe privé de salles
Many were surprised by the absence of a French date for The Masters of the Universewhile the promotion was in full swing and the preview had even taken place. Following the account example X Skript, who had the information first, asked Amazon directly, in charge of distribution, what was planned.
Answer: the film will indeed not be released in French cinemas. It will be available later on the Prime Video service. The date will be communicated later.

This is far from being the first time that Amazon has deprived one of its productions from showing in French cinemas. Recently, Crime 101 had suffered the same fate despite its prestigious casting (Chris Hemsworth, Halle Berry, Mark Ruffalo). In 2025, Jason Statham and his A Working Man had also skipped the cinema box here, despite an American release in 4DX and Dolby Cinema.
The case of Masters of the universe may, however, be surprising: not only is the franchise far from being unknown in France, but it is a real blockbustr whose budget is estimated by Deadline more than 170 million dollars!
A fairly astronomical sum for a reboot without a real star in a main role, except perhaps Jared Leto as Skeletor. Nicholas Galitzine has the difficult task of playing He-Man, accompanied by Camila Mendes (Teela), Alison Brie (Evil-Lyn), James Purefoy (King Randor) and Idris Elba (Duncan). Its biggest battle will clearly be at the box office and we should not count on France for support.
