Several aborted projects
The Rex dates from 1958. The cinema, located in the city center of Lorient, lowered the curtain on 15Â juin 1999. Several projects have been launched. In vain. For example, in 2012a commercial gallery of 1,800 m² on four levels was to emerge from the ground. Later, the creation of a bistro. This will never succeed.
New adventure in 2026
Since the 20Â mai 2026a display was placed in front of the cultural venue.
It is planned to requalify the building by the real estate developer Marignan to transform it into housing. Commercial units are also planned.
D’après in the confrères du Télégramme who were able to communicate with the developer, the building permit could be filed at the end of 2026 for possibly a start of construction mid-2027. A public inquiry and public meetings will be held in the coming weeks.
