A new Jul album is hardly an event anymore. With forget meavailable since May 15, the Marseille rapper adds a new piece to an already extraordinary discography. The project has 21 tracks, including a featuring with Houari. He arrives a few months later TP sur TPreleased last December.
How many albums in total?
Depending on the formats chosen – studio albums, mixtapes, free projects or double discs – the figures vary. forget me is generally presented as the singer’s 26th studio album, while some media refer to his 37th solo project by more broadly integrating his releases.
This productivity is not born only from a commercial strategy: it is based on a continuous practice of creation. In an interview for Cliquethe artist spoke of “between 800 and 1,000 pieces” created in two years after his first salary, invested in equipment. Jul therefore does not produce in long cycles: he accumulates, records, sorts, etc. The material precedes the disc.
This pace would be difficult to maintain without autonomy. Jul writes, records and produces much of his music, releasing it on his own label, D’or et de platinum, with distribution by Believe. This organization reduces intermediaries, successive validations and the usual manufacturing times. Its aesthetic also makes this speed possible. Jul doesn’t always look for the conceptual album: his music is based on momentum, melody.
