At the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, the American actress and comedian was the first guest at the Kering talks which, as part of the Women In Motion program, give a voice to women who are shaking things up in the culture industry.

When she enters the Kering suite, now installed at the Carlton Cannes, she almost hesitates. Hannah Einbinder is not used to being in the spotlight, under the sun, and the Cannes spotlight. However, she is no stranger to speaking to an audience: the 30-year-old Californian, who started with stand-up, was later recognized as one of the young American comedians to watch. Rewarded by an Emmy Award in 2025 for the series Hacksshe participated in the 79th Cannes Film Festival to present Teenage sex and death at Camp Miasmaqueer horror comedy by Jane Shoenbrun, where she plays opposite Gillian Anderson.

A breathtaking appearance: in Cannes, Gillian Anderson surprises with curly hair of spectacular volume

The day after the presentation of the film, which opened the Un Certain Regard section on May 13, Hannah Einbinder was the guest of the first of the traditional talks initiated by Kering as part of its Women In Motion program, which highlights women who offer new perspectives in culture. After posing for a few minutes for the photographers, she spoke about the standing ovation she received yesterday after the screening. The first of her career: “I take advantage of every thing that happens to me here,” she confesses. “Yesterday I was telling Jane that these were the kind of moments we would remember in 20 years. I often do this: imagining a scene as if it already belonged to the past helps me live better in the present moment… It’s obvious, right, that I smoked a lot of weed when I was in high school? »

As fair as possible

Hannah Einbinder has elegant humor and irreverence that hits the mark. A spirit that she puts at the service of her commitment to causes and ideas that are close to her heart. Teenage sex and death at Camp Miasmawhich she describes as a “trans and sapphic ode to a marginalized community” tells the story of a young filmmaker who, tasked with directing the remake of a horror film, becomes obsessed with the mysterious actress who played the “final girl” (the last survivor, Editor’s note) in the original work. To the latter, Gillian Anderson lends her mysterious aura and her immense class. An inspiration, for Hannah Einbinder: “Gillian has a very meticulous approach to her work, she wants to understand the motivations of her character at all times.” young woman recalls that the actress of X-Files andSex education  a publié en 2022 Wanta book in which she anonymously collected the fantasies of many women. “Everyone on this shoot was very involved in the way sexuality is represented, in order to be as fair as possible,” insists Hannah Einbinder. She also emphasizes that everything during the production of the film was done to generate a space of trust and serenity, from the presence of an intimacy coordinator on the set to the particular attention paid to the editing of intimate scenes. Hannah’s character, Chris, is an uncomfortable young woman: “Most people, myself included, experience shame and discomfort when it comes to sex. That’s what the film is about, and it’s important.” A dimension that pushed her to explore her own fragilities: “But I was able to show myself vulnerable because I felt safe. Jane created an environment conducive to this, because it is the very essence of what she wanted to express.”

A radical response

Pour Hannah Binder, Teenage sex and death at Camp Miasma embodies a new movement in American cinema: “Our industry is imperfect, but I’m happy to do this job because today we work with intimacy coordinators, but also with more and more women and queer people who talk about their experiences. What I look for above all is to do a good job. And it turns out that we are doing it.” A momentum that she considers essential in the United States: “We are going through strange times. But I think the response to all of that will be radical, and this film, in many ways, reflects that.”

What’s next? After the very last episodes of Hackswhich will be broadcast at the end of May, Hannah Einbinder will continue her path in cinema. She hopes to be able to alternate registers, like two of her idols, Robin Williams and Jim Carrey, “who are capable, one of playing at a time in Flubber et Will Huntingand the other in The Mask as in Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind.» Always with the most extreme freedom as a compass.
